Our student health office aims to promote the health and well being of the HCA community. We provide emergency care, assessment and intervention with health issues, medication administration, health counseling and routine health screenings (ie: heigh and weight, vision and hearing, scoliosis and hypertension for students in gradees 5 - 8 without an annual physical on file).
Parents should be sure to notify the school of any serious, chronic health problems, diabetes, epilepsy, severe life-threatening allergies, etc., so that appropriate attention may be given to a student.

Medical Requirements for Students
- ALL New Students (Pre - 8) must provide a Current Physical Form with Immunization Record attached at the time of enrollment
- ALL Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten are required to provide proof of a current Flu Vaccine
- ALL Kindergarteners are required to provide an annual Physical Form
- ALL 6th Grade Students are required to provide an Updated Immunization Record
- ALL Students Participating in HCA Sports are required to provide an annual Physical
Sending Symptomatic Children to School
We ask our parents to use your best, cautionary judgement when sending potentially sick or contagious children to school.
Should your child have a fever or rash, complain of a sore throat with or without a fever, or any other warning signs, it is advisable to consult your physician. Please notify myself or the school office of any contagious disease and keep your child home until your physician gives you permission to do so.
Please note the following, common conditions amongst our school age population:
- Strep Throat
Students must be on antibiotics 24-48 hours before returning to school.- Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
This is communicable 24-72 hours and until any discharge ends. Students should be on antibiotics at least 24 hours before returning to school.- Lice
Parents will need to treat with prescription medication. The child may return to class the next morning, but only once their head has been checked by the school nurse. Please click here for important detection information.- Chicken Pox
Students MUST remain out of school until the last crop of vesicles/blisters are crusted over and dry.- Fever
Students must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.Students must be on antibiotics at least 24 hours before returning to school.- Flu
A diagnosis of flu MUST be reported to the health office immediately.- COVID
HCA follows the State of NJ COVID guidelines. Currently, children with a positive COVID test are required to stay home for 5 days.
Please do not send medication of any kind, prescription or over the counter, to school with your child. This includes aspirin, asper gum and throat lozenges. NJ State Law does not allow school nurses to dispense medication without a doctor’s order. Please contact the school nurse if your child must take prescribed medication during the school hours. She will inform you of the necessary procedures.

Out of consideration for the children's health and safety ALL HCA classrooms are peanut and/or tree are nut free. Please send your children to school with nut free snacks and provide nut free foods for parties. Click here for a list of acceptable foods for classroom events.
Nut-free tables are provided in the lunch room for children with allergies.
