My name is Melissa Enna, and I love teaching First Grade at Holy Cross Academy. I was inspired to be a teacher because I struggled as a student. I wanted to build confidence both academically and socially in my students.
I am a proud Catholic school teacher for 22 years in Kindergarten, First and Second Grade. In a Catholic school environment, I can help my students navigate life through Jesus' teachings. By sharing my faith, I can help them make connections to their own lives and faith.
I want to inspire my students first to be compassionate and kind, and then to have a love of learning and pride in their accomplishments. I enjoy sharing my life experiences with them in our warm, friendly, and organized classroom. When my students struggle, I encourage them to stop, think, and try to rise to the occasion.
There is never a dull moment in First Grade! We keep the school year exciting with lots of fun projects, such as:
The 100th Day of School
State reports
Country reports with our International Feast Day
Planet reports with 3-D models
Each of these involve creating their own display and an oral presentation. My students learn to present to a group of their peers in a safe and friendly atmostphere. It's wonderful to watch their skills and confidence grow over the course of the year!
